Administrative / biographical background:

The accounts came into the possession of Walter Jaffrey who set up business as a plumber and glazier in Chorley in Wilmslow in the early 1860s. Walter was born in Stirling in Scotland c.1826. His son Thomas William Jaffrey was born in Chorley c.1859. By 1914 the family business had expanded, and the firm, known as W. Jaffrey and Sons, had premises in Grove Street, Wilmslow. Business continued in these premises until the death of Leonard Jaffrey in 1958, when they were sold. See Acc. file for details
